you have to SEE

Dinu Lazăr

The camera doesn't make a bit of difference. All of them can record what you are seeing. But, you have to SEE.
Ernst Haas, Comment in workshop, 1985

snatched from eternity

Dinu Lazăr

A hundredth of a second here, a hundredth of a second there--even if you put them end to end, they still only add up to one, two, perhaps three seconds, snatched from eternity. - Robert Doisneau

The goal

Dinu Lazăr

"The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer." - Author Unknown

the reverse is true

Dinu Lazăr

We take language into our minds; we read words in the same internal voice with which we think, remember, pray. But when we look at paintings or photographs, the reverse is true. If the image corresponds to our most intensely personal, yet archetypal, yearnings and memories, we don't take the image in, we move out of ourselves into the image, as though it were another world, a hologram whose forms of light are ghostly angels, or a dream whose physical reality is suggested by what we see on the surface of a canvas or a page.

the last to shine

Dinu Lazăr

"Believe that each day is the last to shine upon thee."
Horace

move me to feel

Dinu Lazăr

move me to feel

"Simply look with perceptive eyes at the world about you, and trust to your own reactions and convictions. Ask yourself: "Does this subject move me to feel, think and dream? Can I visualize a print - my own personal statement of what I feel and want to convey - from the subject before me?"

-Ansel Adams

the simplest camera

Dinu Lazăr

"No photographer is as good as the simplest camera"

Edward Steichen

a portrait

Dinu Lazăr

The most difficult thing for me is a portrait. You have to try and put your camera between the skin of a person and his shirt. -Henri Cartier-Bresson, "Photography Year 1980, LIFE Library of Photography" , page: 27

need not be explained

Dinu Lazăr

" A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words"
Ansel Adams

Being creative

Dinu Lazăr

The more you know, the more you realize there is to know. Being creative is not just a destination, it's the journey we take on the road to discovering who we really are. -Tedric A. Garrison,
